The Hinterlands are a beautiful forest region located in the northern area of the Eastern Kingdoms, where Razorbeak gryphons fly free over its vast mountainous peaks. In the west you will find the famous Wildhammer dwarves that reside in Aerie Peak, while in the east there are three different tribes of forest trolls living in both ancient ruins and vast cities. Several settlement remnants of the high elves in Lordaeron can also be found.
This idyllic mountain range uses Jason Hayes' Forest compositions, which can also be heard in quaint, stable regions such as Elwynn Forest and the Redridge Mountains. The pieces are dominated by a strong woodwind and brass section that is supported by a group of airy strings. When you fly into this alpine thicket, you hear a sonorous solo oboe playing a somber melody over a held string section. The melody here takes an avian quality, reminding you of both the majestic gryphons and the sad past of their rowdy dwarf riders. As you continue to traverse through this impressive woodland, you hear the faint sounds of a beautiful harp quiet bassoon duet. Airy strings also begin to fill the air as you near Seradane, one of the four mighty trees that lead to the mysterious Emerald Dream. The woodwinds and a morose trumpet begin to play another ethereal melody that floats over the boundless pine trees into the unknown.
