Bloodmyst Isle is the southern island in the Azuremyst Isle chain located of the northwest coest of Kalimdor. The land has been tainted by the radiation that continues to emanate from the wreckage of the Exodar to the north, and has created a red mist that now permeates the landscape and has given the island its threatening moniker. The native fauna exhibits a crimson tinge, while some of the wild inhabitants have mutated and developed hostile instincts. The Draenei residing in the central outpost of Blood Watch work tirelessly to reverse the damage caused by their doomed vessel and restore the landscape to its natural beauty.
Bloodmysts's mystical ambience draws influence from its northern neighbour, but the resulting atmosphere is one of corruption and despair rather than beauty and spirituality. The presence of the pan flute provides the familiar association with the spiritual roots of the Naaru, but its performance is wild and tumultuous, screaming over a dense thicket of reverberant bowed synthesiser pads which continually emerge and recede back into silence. An assortment of bells and hand percussion are wildly struck with no sense of metre. When the numerous musical elements align into a harmony, it is dissonant and often based on a sustained diminished chord. The resulting ambience is chaotic and menacing, providing the perfect musical representation of the tainted landscape.
It is hard to identify other traditional instrumentation within this sonic corruption, but the depths of the bass clarinet's register are often heard. Its guttural rasp pierces through the dense synthesiser texture almost as a warning to adventurers of the dangers this once peaceful land now heralds. String pedals are also common, if not to simply bind the varied sonic colours together. However, around 9.44, a single cue introduces some familiar timbres. Trembling trilling woodwinds flutter over a synthesiser pedal, growing in intensity until they inexplicably vanish, unresolved. Adventurers are left feeling tense and weary, unsure of the horrors that await them on the cursed island.
