The Terokkar Forest is a mystical place home to the Bone Wastes and the ruined fortress of Auchindoun. This ancient forest is named after Terokk, a mysterious arakkoa hero who unexpectedly disappeared after he built the hidden capital city, Skettis. A dark rebellious group of the humanoid-bird Arakkoa still reside in the Auchindoun mausoleum, tucked away deeply in the Bone Wastes.
The music of this zone helps reflect both the hopeful future of the recently returned Draenei inhabiting Shattrath City, but also their fallen ancestors at the Auchindoun burial ground. When you first enter the forest, you encounter huge dark pine trees covered in neon green crystals. The ambient wind chimes and shimmering effects capture the mysterious magic glowing inside the olemba tree crystals. A loud low brass and string section begins to enter with a long and sustained ascending scale to remind the adventure of the dark fel magic that has begun to corrupt this once beautiful land.
As you begin to head toward Auchindoun, the brass notes slowly fade away and transform into a low bass drone while the languid chimes of a buzzed gong signal the bell toll of this Draenei city of the dead. Shimmering string begin to play in the background as another low string section enters with its descending and ascending melodic motif. As you continue to enter the enter of the ruins you’re hit with a brief moment of musical silence that’s just filled with ambient wind sounds. You can feel the energy of the astral Ethereals in the Mana Tombs and the elements of the Shadow Council hiding in their secure Shadow Labyrinth, reflecting on their future destructive plans.
You notice a small group of grave robbers disappear into the darkness, the unsettling silence is broken with the return of a hope inducing melodic line played by a high string section. A heavenly organ begins to join the strings by playing an ethereal motif that goes up and down intervallically until a solo violin begins to take over the melodic line with a heavenly yet chromatically conflicting tone. The atmosphere returns to shimmering silence as the roar of the undead dragon Teribus the Cursed snaps you back into reality.
Overall the music of this demonically destroyed forest exemplifies the mystical and shimmering nature of the gifts the Shattrath Draenei received from the Narru, but also the pastoral and spiritual remains of the destroyed Draenei resting place Auchindoun.
